The footage, taken from the 2024 PAW Convention in Baltimore, shows the gospel singer-turned-pastor explaining that if just 1,000 in-person attendees and 1,000 online viewers each gave $20, they could hit the goal. Oh, and if you were sitting up front? That’ll be $100 per person, please.
But what really set social media off? Sapp’s request to shut the doors during the offering—sparking outrage from critics calling it a “shakedown” and a “holy hostage situation.”
Sapp has since clapped back, saying his words were taken out of context and insisting the doors were closed to minimize distractions—NOT to force donations. He also defended the ask, saying churches have budgets to meet just like any other organization.
