Via US Attorney’s Office Northern District of Illinois – A Chicago man, Latavion Johnson, 22, has been charged with illegally possessing a machine gun conversion device, also known as a “Glock switch” or “auto sear,” which allows firearms to fire multiple rounds with a single trigger pull. Federal agents discovered the device during a search of Johnson’s South Side residence last week.

According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court, Johnson allegedly posted videos on social media showing himself with a firearm equipped with the device and a photo of the device alongside cash. He is charged with one count of possession of a machine gun, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. Johnson remains in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) in collaboration with Chicago Police and the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC). This prosecution is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative to combat violent gun crime.
Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
