FALANDO JONES SCORES 22 POINTS IN CITY OILERS LOSS TO PETRO DE LUANDA

A Ugandan basketball team called the City Oilers competes in the National Basketball League (NBL), which is the premier division. The Kampala-based Oilers were established in 2011 and made their professional debut in the FUBA third division the following year. The Oilers, who also won the 2016 and 2017 FIBA Africa Zone V Clubs championships, are the most successful team in NBL history, having amassed a record eight championships.

Petro de Luanda win Thurday night 89-71 over the City Oilers in Cairo. Falando Jones of the City Oilers scored a game-high 22 points, and James Justice Jr. of the same squad contributed another 20 points. Aboubacar Gakou and Ater Majok helped Petro de Luanda win their first BAL game in 2023 with a 54–36 rebounding advantage over the City Oilers. Its bench outscored City Oilers’ bench 34-10 to separate the two teams. Mande Juruni, the coach of the Oilers, acknowledged during the post-game press conference that his club has not yet performed to its full ability. Unfortunately Falando Jones, one of Coach Juruni’s best, had to leave the game injured but Juruni is quoted saying, “He will be alright. There’s nothing really major. Our physios are going to work with him, but he will be ready for the next game.”
